Parris
Reverend Parris is the official Minister in Salem. Amongst his people he is not very well liked because of the way he was chosen to be the minister. He did not get the majority of the vote for him to be minister but managed to do it anyway. His daughter Betty suddenly became sick when he caught his daughter, Marry Warren, and Abigail dancing in the forest. He is facing a lot of controversy because not only is his daughter presumed to be cursed but the village people believe that Abigail (his niece) and his servant Tituba are being accused of witchcraft. The Putnams are accusing his family of witchcraft which brings a lot of unwanted attention on him. This is very bad for him because he could be accused of harboring witches and sheltering them so the rest of the village won't find them. Parris' fear is that he will lose the trust of his people or maybe even be hanged because of his accusations.
